The Shawnee County Coroner's Office says it could take eight weeks to get all the test results back on a man who died after being tased by Sheriff's deputies.
In a news conference Wednesday Sheriff Richard Barta said that in his heart he does not believe the taser caused the death of 59 year old Walter Edward Haake Jr. However, he says he will wait for the Coroner's report to make a decision.
Haake was tased three times on Saturday night when he refused to come out of his vehicle and receive medical attention. Two deputies were on the scene along with Goodyear employees and AMR.
Goodyear security officers called the Sheriff's Office when they were struggling to keep Haake from leaving the plant in his vehicle. They felt Haake could not safely drive his car. The deputies did get the keys from Haake.
Haake was tased only after he repeatedly refused to comply with the deputies and AMR. The taser used did not have prongs and did not pierce Haake's skin, however, it still uses volts of electricity. For more information about tasers you can click on the link below.
The Shawnee County Coroner is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of death. As a matter of policy the Sheriff's Office is conducting an internal review of this incident. Neither of the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave. Sheriff Barta says they have unblemished records.
