Domestic violence is a real but often hidden problem. It's a problem members of the Battered Women's Task Force help women and children fight every day.

For some, the images of abuse may be easy to dismiss, a problem that doesn't happen in *your community. But Nicole MacMillan of the Battered Women's Task Force says that's just not true.

"It certainly is happening in our community and we know that a lot of the women it's happening to aren't getting help," MacMillan says. "So its really happening here on a lot bigger scale."

So for three decades, the Battered Women's Task Force has offered help.

"Women seeking protection orders, kids getting counseling, support groups, sexual assault counseling," MacMillan says, listing the many services they provide. But providing that help comes at a cost--that's why the task force invites the community to Concealed Revealed...an art auction event.

The name behind Concealed Revealed has to do with women's issues sort of being concealed, and using art to expose women's issues and get the message out there," says MacMillan.

Carrie Jo Gros, one of the artists donating to the event, admits it's an important cause to her. "You can improve a community when you educate and empower women."

That's why more than fifty pieces of art by local artists and by domestic violence victims will be up for grabs at the auction.

"I'm an expressive person so when i'm painting, i'm working through my feelings," Gros says. "And that's why I think the women really identify with that. So it's revealed but it's also such a hidden problem. So its put a pleasant face to something that's really pretty sad."

Head to concealed revealed at Warehouse 414 on Saturday, April 26th. Tickets are $15.00 in advance and $25.00 at the door or just click the link here on the web channel to buy your ticket.
