Winter Weather Sparks Disaster Declaration For 18 Kansas Counties

Topeka (WIBW) - A disaster declaration was issued for 18 Kansas counties. They will be getting help recovering from winter storms earlier this week that caused millions in damage.
Gov. Mark Parkinson signed the disaster declaration Friday for a string of counties across Northeast Kansas. Those are Atchinson, Brown, Clay, Cloud, Doniphan, Jackson, Jefferson, Jewell, Marshall, Mitchell, Nemaha, Osborne, Ottawa, Pottawatomie, Republic, Riley, Smith and Washington.
Preliminary damage assessments sit at more than $9.5 million.
Extreme heavy snows caused severe damage to electric infrastructure that cut power to several thousand customers.
