Special Saturday Session For Adoptees
TOPEKA, Kan., (WIBW)_ The Shawnee Co. Courthouse is going to stay open an extra day, and this time its for a holiday: National Adoption Day. The Courthouse is teaming up with TFI Family Services to help place dozens of foster children with their 'forever families' on Saturday.
According to TFI, 129,000 foster children in the United States are waiting to find loving homes to adopt them.
The official number of children being adopted in Topeka will not be announced until a special ceremony preceding the adoption finalizations. Mayor Bunten is expected to open the event by presenting a signed proclamation declaring Topeka National Adoption Day.
Several national partners, including The Alliance for Children's Rights, Casey Family Services, Children's Action Nretwork, Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute, Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, and the Freddie Mac Foundation come together to sponsor the day.
