Protests Continue Over Inmate's Death

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)_ Bias Busters returned to the steps of the Shawnee Co. jail Friday afternoon, asking for answers into why an inmate died while in custody there in November. It's the second protest following the death of inmate John Bradley Rippee, who was found dying in his cell early in the morning on Nov. 12. Bias Busters leader Sonny Scroggins says he believes there are inconsistencies in what officials are saying about the case and says until those inconsistencies are sorted out he will continue to protest every Friday. The KBI is investigating the death, a 2004 law Scroggins helped pass mandates that for all deaths of inmates in state or local custody.
