Fatal Hit And Run Suspect Charged
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) _ A man charged in the hit and run death of a Lawrence woman last month is free on bond. Joel Hernandez turned himself into Douglas Co. authorities and made his first court appearance Thursday.
Hernandez is charged with leaving scene of a fatal accident and failure to report an accident, both felonies, and misdemeanor vehicular homicide.
Police believe Hernandez was under the influence of alcohol when his car struck Leek who was riding her bicycle in the early morning hours of October 16.
He is due back in court December 2nd.
