A hunting accident has claimed the life of an Alma man. The Wabaunsee County Sheriff's Office says it happened 6:30 Sunday morning in the area of Phillips Creek Road and Wabaunsee Road near Alma.

Deputies say 46-year-old Joseph Shade was preparing for a hunting outing and apparently mishandled the gun. He accidentally shot himself while in his vehicle.

Shade worked in Wamego for R-tech and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Funeral services will be at the Campanella-Gentry funeral home in Alma at 10:30 Thursday morning.
