A group of caregivers met at the Lexington Park Nursing and Post Acute facility Monday to detail potential cuts to Medicare.
Organizers say Congress is considering cuts to seniors' Medicare Part A skilled nursing facilities. The group says such cuts would harm patient care programs and ongoing clinical quality improvements.
Facilities also say jobs and the employment base of the state's long term care communities will suffer.
The $2.7 billion cuts over five years could mean Kansas skilled nursing facilities would potentially lose $22 million over the five year period.
Caregivers say a cut this large would undermine their ability to operate on ever-slimmer budgets to continue to deliver the highest quality care to the frail elderly.
