TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Aspirng Nobel Prize Winners and NASA Scientists gathered Tuesday at Washburn University for its annual Women in Science Day.

The Women in Science Day brought together 7th and 8th grade girls to the Washburn campus for a day of science filled activities to inspire young women to continue taking math, science, and technology classes throughout their junior high and high school years.

Studies have shown that girls perform as well as boys in math and science throughout their elementary school years, but begin to lose interest in these courses in junior high and high school.

Statistics have shown that the wage gap between the genders shrinks or disappears in science and tecnology fields.
