Cardiovascular disease claims the lives of more women than all forms of cancer combined. Former First Lady Laura Bush and the Heart Truth campaign want to help get the word out by asking all Americans to wear red this Friday, February 4th. While heart disease awareness among women has doubled in the last 12 years, only 16% of women consider heart disease to be their greatest problem and it remains their number one killer.
Mrs. Bush has partnered with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's (NHLBI) The Heart Truth campaign since 2003. Previous Red Dress Fashion show participants have including Sarah Ferguson, Vanessa Williams and Natalie Morales.
Wear Red Day is part of the NHLBI's month long initiative to fight heart disease featuring local activities such as free screenings, and the Red Dress Fashion show. They are even using Facebook and Twitter. They want people to upload a photo of themselves or their group wearing red on The Heart Truth's Facebook page:
and write about what they are doing.
On Monday, February 7th, they will feature one photo and testimonial on their home page. They also ask that people use the hashtag #TheHeartTruth, after every relevant tweet. Thank you!
