TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A grand opening was held at Washburn Tech Wednesday.

The Midwest Training Center is a state of the art center which will provide training in current and emerging climate and energy control technologies.

The goal of the MTC is to provide existing and new workers additional training needed to help current and new firms grow in the region.

Washburn University President Doctor Jerry Farley says this is an exciting time for the students.

"I was talking with some of the students this morning and when they see all this technology and the way this building has been reconfigured, they're pretty excited about it. because now, somebody's really paying attention to them, somebody really cares about what's happening to them," said Farley.

Farley says the new center will help with future jobs, saying over the next few years, 64% of Kansas jobs will require post secondary schooling.
