TOPEKA -- Westar Energy's Green Team, working with the City of Topeka, is revitalizing Skyline Park at Burnett's Mound, making it a destination point for outdoor enthusiasts. 25 volunteers spent a day last October removing the overgrowth from the bluff. Another work day is scheduled for this Saturday, March 12th, and volunteers are needed to help cut, stump treat, and take out brush. Tree and brush removal will allow restoration of native grass and wildflowers.
Volunteers of any age are encouraged to come out any time between 9:00am and 3:00pm on the 12th. Volunteers should bring their own gloves and chainsaws, loppers or handsaws, if they have them. Eye protection, drinks and lunch will all be provided for you.
Volunteers should call now to help Westar get a headcount, by calling Barb Cornelius at 575-8125 before Friday afternoon.
Westar's Green Team is made up of a group of employees and retirees who take on environmental projects across Kansas. They complete between 50 and 70 projects a year, on weekends and evenings. Thank you for your assistance!
