U.S. 40 Down To One Lane Over Kansas River Bridges

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Northbound and southbound U.S. 40 over the Kansas River Bridges will be reduced to one lane, 24/7 round the clock, beginning after morning rush hour on Monday, May 6 through late May 2013, weather permitting, in Lawrence (Douglas County). Crews will resume project work to repair the bearings on both bridges.

Traffic will be directed through the work zone via cones and signage. Advance message boards will alert drivers to the lane closures. Drivers should expect major delays during peak travel times. There will be a posted speed limit of 25 mph and a 12-foot lane width restriction through the project work zone at all times.

The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through the project work zone. (KDOT Project #40-23 KA-3075-01)
