TOPEKA, Kan. -- Eastbound and westbound U.S. 24 will be reduced to one lane each direction from K-237 to Grantville Road as existing U.S 24 westbound lanes will be closed and eastbound and westbound U.S. 24 traffic will be carried on the new eastbound lanes (side by side) with one lane in each direction, 24/7 round the clock, beginning mid-day on Monday, May 6, weather permitting.
Traffic is being moved to the new eastbound lanes so that reconstruction work can begin on the existing U.S. 24 westbound lanes.
Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via signage and center line “sticks and bricks” traffic control. There will be a posted speed limit of 55 mph and a 12-foot lane width restriction through the project work zone during working hours. Drivers should expect minor delays during peak travel times.
The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through the project work zone. Updated traffic information for this project can be viewed at: www.ksdot.org/topekametro/laneclose.asp.
The scheduled completion date for the pavement reconstruction project is late July 2013, weather permitting. (KDOT Project #24-44 KA 2404-01)
