TOPEKA ZOO -- The Topeka Zoo invites the public to attend the Teddy Bear Fair on Saturday, May 21st. The event is being held from 9:00 to 3:00, and is the culmination of what has been a week long bear awareness campaign at the zoo. The Teddy Bear Fair will feature a number of activities all in celebration of the Teddy Bear including a Honey Pot Hunt, Teddy Bear Wellness Clinic, Teddy Bear Picnic, and Teddy Bear Parade!
Children are encouraged to bring their teddy bears to the event. From 9:00 a.m. to 12:00, Teddy Bears will receive a wellness checkup at the Teddy Bear Wellness Clinic. The clinic, sponsored by Stormont Vail, will include various stations for teddy bears to visit including height and weight checks, an overall wellness checkup, xray, and an overall clean and repair of teddy bears.
Beginning at 11:30, guests can attend the Teddy Bear Picnic located on the boardwalk of Black Bear Woods. For $5, guests will receive a boxed lunch and enjoy activities including story time and a special interactive black bear enrichment activity. Those children attending the picnic will have their names put into a drawing for an opportunity to help hide enrichment items in the black bear yard!
At 1:00, the Teddy Bear Parade will begin. Children and their bears are invited to parade around the north loop of the zoo. Following the parade, special awards will be presented including "Most Loved Teddy Bear", "Biggest Teddy Bear", "Smallest Teddy Bear", and more!
Throughout the day, guests will be able to participate in the Honey Pot Hunt. The hunt, which is themed to one of the worlds most famous teddy bears, Winnie The Pooh, will include a game sheet that will provide clues for children to help find seven honey pots located around the Topeka Zoo. Once completed, game sheets can be turned into the Leopard Spot Gift Shop for an opportunity to win prizes.
"This is great event that is bound to provide a lot of fun and memories for everyone", states Brendan Wiley, Topeka Zoo Director. "As we move into the summer, we want to create even more opportunities for the members of the community to come out and visit the zoo."
The Topeka Zoo is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the last admission entrance at 4:30. Admission is $5.75 for adults, $4.75 for seniors, and $4.25 for children ages 3 to 12. Children 2 and under and members of the Friends of the Topeka Zoo are FREE.
