Topeka School District Honors Distinguished Staffers

TOPEKA -- Dr. Kevin Singer also held court tonight at the USD 501 Distinguished Staff Awards (DSA) Wednesday night.

10 staff members were awarded the district's highest honors. They include Amy Burditt, 1st Year Teacher from Sheldon Child Development Center; Barry Evans, High School Educator, Topeka West (he's the band director!) Barbara Garst, Office Personnel Honors from Eisenhower Middle School; Antwann Jones, Top Paraprofessional, Bishop Elementary School.

Duke Palmer, Administrator, from Avondale East Elementary; Kenya Patzer, 1st Year Teacher, Topeka High's Math Department; Kimberly Sonnich, Middle School Educator, Robinson Middle School.

Other honorees last night included Brennan Wilcox, Classified Support, 501's IT Department; Tim Wilson, Certified Support, French Middle School; and Melinda Wingfield, Elementary Educator, Lowman Hill Elementary.

The faculty and staffers who won were nominated by their peers and factors like their experience in the district were considered, along with their effectiveness, community involvement and other factors.
