FROM TOPEKA FIRE -- The Topeka Fire Department is gearing up to host its Open House for this year, on Saturday, October 8th.. The hours are 1:00 till 4:00 that afternoon, at 324 SE Jefferson Street.
The entire community is invited to attend this year’s event and we are seeking the help of our local media, to help get the word out.
Open House 2011 kicks off Fire Prevention Week which this year will be recognized around the world this year during the week of October 9th through 15th.
Open House 2011 is the perfect opportunity for our citizens to meet our firefighters up close and personal, during non-emergency situations.
Opportunities will exist to try on real firefighter gear; experience what it is like to open a charged fire line; use a fire extinguisher to extinguish an actual (controlled) fire; witness up close a simulation of a vehicle extrication; sign-up for a free smoke alarm installation or to request a residential open burning permit and so much more.
