Maintain inside contact with local chairmen of unions regarding business car defects and labor problems, and outside contact with FRA, Amtrak and AAR Inspectors. Oversee performance of and serve as signatory to qualified Amtrak and FRA required forms and be he point of contact for those organizations for business cars. Implement all aspects of Company policy to Mechanical Department group of workmen. Work with computerized systems and report to effect improved performance/cost reductions. Directly supervise shop craft employees to safety execute terminal or shop operating plan. Relieve General Foreman in his/her absence. Ensure labor and equipment is positioned to inspect, test and repair equipment to meet the needs of the daily plan. ò Prepare and conduct job safety briefings with all employees. Provide periodic updates to general foreman to ensure daily plan requirements are met. Schedule repairs away from terminal to ensure equipment is returned to service quickly. Provide Technical support to apprentice employees. Provide information to assess equipment damage and facilitate repairs. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Requires knowledge of freight car/ passenger car/ business car maintenance procedures and practices to include FRA, AAR, Amtrak and BNSF policies and standards. Must have previous mechanical department or equivalent industry experience. Must be proficient in coordinating information from several sources to move business cars and ready them for scheduled trips. Must supervise and motivate scheduled (union represented) employees. Must demonstrate initiative and decisiveness and be able to inspire others to excel. Candidate must possess superior attention to detail and quality. Must have basic accounting and computer skills and possess technical ability to conduct analysis of computer generated reports. Must be able to work well under pressure and tight deadlines and handle conflict resolution.
