TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-For the third time in 7 months, Wolfe's downtown Topeka photography shop was burglarized and property worth up to $20,000 stolen.

Wolfe's was burglarized last November and about $30,000 in equipment stolen and in February, another break-in and $26,000 in goods stolen. There were no arrests in these crimes.

On Saturday, an intruder used a pry bar to break through two front glass doors. Once inside, the burglar smashed the locked glass showcases and stole high-end digital cameras ranging in price from $500 to $4,000. Surveillance video shows he threw them into a bag and ran.

"They are in and out of the building in 2 minutes and that's the sign of a professional thief," said C.E.O of Wolfe's, Mike Worswick.

Topeka Police responded quickly, but not in time.

"It's very frustrating because we are 4 blocks from the police station and the guy is bold enough to come and get away," said Worswick.

"You would think being so close to the police station that criminals would think twice, but apparently they don't," said Lt. Joe Perry from Topeka Police Department, Property Crimes Commander.

With the third theft in a relatively short time, T.P.D. has some recommendations.

"It could be safety glass, could be some type of coating on the glass, could be retractable bars behind the glass," said Perry.

C.E.O. Mike Worswick says he's thinking about changes.

"We think about everything. Big dogs to bars on the windows or whatever, but we don't want to turn our building, if we can help it ,into a fort," said Worswick.

Meanwhile, Wolfe's is open but the intruder is on the loose.

"You just wish that police were able to catch the bad guy and be appropriately prosecuted," said Worswick.

Worswick tells 13 News the latest heist amounts to a $15-20,000 loss for his store. There is video surveillance shots of the intruder but it has not been released to police.

T.P.D. is asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 234-0007.
