Berryton Girl Dies Following Friday UTV Accident

BERRYTON, Kan. (WIBW) - A 12-year-old girl has died following a UTV accident Friday, the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office said Monday.

Alexis Helen Wendland, 12, of Berryton, died on Sunday, June 16, 2013 as result of the injuries sustained in the UTV accident that occurred on Friday, June 14th, 2013.

Authorities were called just after 8 p.m. Friday to the accident at 4550 SE 69th St.

The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office says the girl was driving a four-wheeled, enclosed utility type vehicle through a grassy area. They believe she was driving too quickly when she tried to turn. They say the vehicle tipped over and rolled on top of her.

The girl was considered to be in critical condition when she was taken from the scene.
