TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A local kid doing good for classmates just got a needed boost.

Jack Hishmeh is working to transform a classroom into a special opps room for special needs students at Topeka High School. Friday, he received a $3,000 grant from the Topeka Active 20-30 Club to continue with the transformation.

Jack said he put his heart into the grant application because the students mean so much to him.

"Their happiness for life makes me want to come back and hang out with them," he said. "They are just so happy and they laugh at everything and they just make your day. Sometimes, I might be having a bad day and I go in the room and they just break a joke that they might not even call a joke."

More donations are needed to finish the project. Those can be submitted to the Topeka Public Schools Foundation, P.O. Box 5883, Topeka, Kansas.
