Kansas Governor Sam Brownback announced today the appointment of Kansas Secretary of Administration Dennis Taylor as Executive Director of the Kansas Lottery. The appointment is effective January 11, 2013.
“During the last two years, my administration has worked to change how state government operates - made it more efficient with a focus on its core responsibilities and balanced the state budget without a tax increase,” Governor Brownback said. “Among other initiatives, Dennis has been instrumental in the consolidation of the management of state human resources services, the establishment of the Office of Repealer, and in reducing the Department of Administration workforce by 12% without reducing services. He played a key role in the implementation of the state-wide voluntary retirement incentive program that has lowered state expenses without reducing services.”
Governor Brownback continued, “Dennis’ 35 years of public management experience will ensure the Kansas Lottery continues its path of growth and success.”
Sec. Taylor has worked at the local, state and international levels of government, including serving twice as a cabinet secretary during the Hayden Administration and as Shawnee County Commissioner.
“The Department of Administration has made substantial progress during the past two years in lowering its costs and improving its services. While it has been my pleasure to have helped build the framework for future progress, I am always looking for new arenas in which to apply my planning and organizational skills,” Taylor said. “I appreciate the Governor’s continuing confidence in asking me to undertake this important assignment at the Kansas Lottery.”
The mission of the Kansas Lottery is to produce the maximum amount of revenue possible for the State of Kansas while ensuring the integrity of all games.
Sec. Taylor replaces Dennis Wilson as the lottery’s executive director. Wilson resigned last month because of health reasons.
