TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Shawnee County Commissioners Ensley, Thomas and Buhler officially approved an agreement for Topeka Civic Theater to assume management of the Helen Hocker Theatre Thursday.
Commissioners say the deal should save the county almost $40,000 a year.
Under the contract, the county will pay TCTA just over $220,000 annually to run Helen Hocker programs. The cost is expected to decrease with time.
Despite criticism the agreement does not establish performance standards, TCTA officials promise to preserve the character of the center.
“Both parties have agreed to maintain the spirit, heart, and soul of Helen Hocker Theater within this contract and in the programming that will go forward,” said Randy Luebbe, Shawnee County Recreation Director.
Ensley also said he is confident in TCTA’s ability to manage.
