TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - People who participated in the Vocational Intervention Project returned to Stormont-Vail to celebrate Friday.

The project started back in 1992. It gives high school students an opportunity to focus on their futures.

Through the program, juniors and seniors in USD 501 are able to gain hands-on work experience, along with a paycheck. Stormont-Vail allows the students to work in about any area of the facility, from food service to the gift shop to assisting with patients.

The project is a partnership between Topeka Public Schools, Stormont-Vail HealthCare and Heartland Works. The program takes about 25 students a year and boasts a 99 percent graduation rate among its students.
