TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A partnership to provide better cancer care in Topeka went a step further Tuesday.

A reception and presentation recognized Stormont-Vail's increased collaboration with the Midwest Cancer Alliance.

Stormont's been a member of the Alliance since it began in 2008.

Now, renewed partnerships, increased financial investments and the National Cancer Institute Designation for the KU Cancer Center mean more access to clinical trials for patients at the Stormont-Vail Cancer Center. It also will allow physicians to assist with other research projects.

Stormont has provided cancer care since 1968, when a physician group associated with the medical center brought the first hematologist/oncologist to Topeka.
