Washburn Rural Press Release:

Topeka, KS, --- After fifteen years at the helm of the Rossville High School Football Program, Steve Buhler has been tapped to lead the WRHS Football Team.

Coach Buhler has the most wins as a head coach in school history at Rossville (120-54), including 27 play-off wins. He has been selected as an assistant coach in the Shrine Bowl Game and served once as the Head Coach for the East Squad. His teams have been to the sub-state finals 7 of the last 11 years. Buhler is a Benedictine College graduate with a BA in Communications and a MA in Communications from Fort Hays State University. He was a participant in both the football and baseball programs while at Benedictine.

In the application process, Coach Buhler stated that… [He loves to coach the game of football because it is an extension of the classroom. It allows me to help young people learn lessons not only about the game of football, which I am passionate about, but also lessons about themselves and what it takes to help groups of people be successful. There is nothing better than running into old players who, as they have gotten older, talk about the experiences and the memories they have of the time spent in your program.]

Announcing his appointment to the position, Penny Lane, WRHS Athletic Director said that, “The Washburn Rural High School football program is one of the best in the state. Judging by the quality of those who applied for this postion, others think so as well. Coach Buhler represents the very best of that applicant pool. We enthusiastically welcome him to the Junior Blue family and look forward to his leadership in the years to come.” Buhler will assume his new coaching duties this summer and will teach in the English department at the start of the 2013-14 school year.
