MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) - The 8th annual Wreaths Across America Day is coming up this month at several area cemeteries.

Nearly 750 locations throughout the country are expected to take part in this year’s ceremonies. The goal of this effort is to honor the sacrifices of all veterans and teach younger generations about the high cost of freedom.

"A lot of times it brings healing and peace to the families to be able to see that people really do care about the sacrifice that their loved ones made and it’s not always the families that donate the wreaths," said Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery Manager Keith Shurtleff. "We’ve had many businesses who have donated money for the wreaths and so it’s just an indicator to the families that their loved ones aren’t forgotten and that we really do care about the sacrifices that they’ve made."

Seven ceremonial wreaths will be placed to remember those who gave their lives in service for our country. Specially made wreaths will be placed by representatives from each branch of service.

Wreaths Across America will be held at each State Veterans Cemetery on December 14th at 11 a.m.
