TOPEKA – St. Francis Health Center is celebrating Home Safety Month by launching Weekend Warrior Wisdom, a national initiative that amplifies the importance of safety in and around the home. “We are committed to educating the community that whether it’s a small or large project, safety should always be a priority,” says Konnie Kyle, RN-BC, MSN, St. Francis Spine Center charge nurse.
Weekend Warrior Wisdom provides tips and know-how on playing it smart when it comes to home projects. Tips include how to prepare for outdoor tasks by stocking up on sunscreen to protect against the sun’s harmful rays, as well as water to avoid dehydration. The program also discusses how best to dress for safety by leaving the flip-flops in the closet and opting for close-toed shoes instead.
The Home Safety Council reports that an estimated 20,000 deaths occur each year as a result of home-related injuries. St. Francis hopes to lower that number with this program, aimed at showing how learning to take small steps for safety today can help curb home injuries for tomorrow.
Weekend Warrior Wisdom is nationally supported by Spirit of Women and locally presented by St. Francis Health Center.
