TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The founder of a group that hits the streets to care for those in need was recognized Wednesday.
Brian "Jude" Quinn received this month's Champion of Character award for his efforts with Silverback KS.
The group mobilizes volunteers through social media to assist the homeless and other at-risk populations in Topeka. Among their efforts are weekly trips to distribute coffee, water or other items to those in need. They've also created and passed out "SilverBAGS" with person hygiene and first aid items.
Quinn says shaking someone's hand or seeing their face after you've provided a small amount of assistance is "an amazing feeling." He says Topeka is filled with good people who want to give of their time, and their group assists with connecting them with the opportunity to do so.
People can connect with the group by following @SilverbackKS on twitter or visiting their facebook page.
