Sheriff Herman Jones
TOPEKA – The Shawnee County Sheriff says budget cuts have put public safety at risk.
Herman Jones asked county commissioners to boost funding for his office next year by $3 million Wednesday.
The money would help fill 14 vacant deputy positions.
Jones says the department has been short-staffed for a decade. He says, while the increase may be for $3 million, it is actually getting back what has been reduced in prior years.
