TOPEKA – The Shawnee County District Court expects to be able to continue operating in 2014 with the same budget it has this year.
While Chief Judge Nancy Parrish did not ask county commissioners for an increase in funding Thursday, she did say the court may be underestimating costs in certain areas like juror pay and parking.
In 2012, the court spent almost $175,000 on compensating jurors, which is much more than anticipated.
“Currently in our budget, and this may be woefully short, we have $135,000 budgeted for 2013 and that is also so the same as what we have requested in our budget for 2014,” said Parrish.
Parrish also says many parts of the court's budget are driven by factors outside of the court's control.
