TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The entity with the final say over gas and electric rates welcomed its newest member Friday.
Former state senator Pat Apple took his oath as the third member of the Kansas Corporation Commission. The KCC regulates public utilities, motor carriers, oil and gas production and other areas.
Apple is the second former state senator to join the KCC this year. Fellow senate alum Jay Emler was approved earlier.
Apple believes the legislative experience will help as they wade through cases. He says issues like telecommunications and transmissions lines would regularly come up in the senate, so both he and Emler have some familiarity with the topics.
Apple served in the senate since 2005, chairing the utilities committee.
