Schmidt Announces Consumer Protection Week Events

TOPEKA – Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt today announced his office will commemorate National Consumer Protection Week, March 4-10 by providing consumers opportunities to fight identity theft by destroying personal documents.

“Protecting consumers is a primary responsibility of our office,” Schmidt said. “By helping consumers safely destroy documents containing personal information, we are preventing that information from falling into the hands of a scam artist or identity thief. Consumers across the state are invited to take advantage of this opportunity.”

Free document destruction services will be available at five locations over the course of the week, courtesy of Jayhawk File Express, Meritrust Credit Union, Capital City Bank and Housing and Credit Counseling, Inc. Documents can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to noon at the following locations:

Tuesday, March 6th, in Salina
Salina Public Library
301 W. Elm Street

Thursday, March 8th, in Topeka
Capital City Bank
3710 SW Topeka Boulevard
