The WIBW Weather Team has declared Saturday, October 13th a "13 Severe Weather Alert Day." A powerful Autumn storm system will blast through the Midwest on Saturday producing a regional severe weather episode that will impact Central and Eastern Kansas.

A line of powerful storms will likely develop along a cold front/dry-line in Central Kansas by early Saturday afternoon and move to the East through the afternoon/early evening hours. This line of storms will likely produce some very strong straight-line winds , 60+mph, and the possibility of isolated tornadoes. Frequent lightning, thunder and torrential rains will also accompany these storms.

The new "13 Severe Weather Alert Day" was developed by WIBW to better inform our viewers and users that a significant threat of severe weather exists. A "13 Severe Weather Alert Day" will be declared when dangerous and life threatening weather will be possible. This can happen by means of severe storms, winter storms, excessive heat or cold. Nothing will change as far as our severe weather coverage goes, however, it is our hope that when the public hears a day declared a "13 Severe Weather Alert" day you will pay extra close attention to the developing weather situation.
