RELEASE: TOPEKA, Kan. – The Sardou Bridge is set to open to traffic tomorrow, Thursday, May 9th, 2013.
On January 14th, the Sardou Bridge linking the North Topeka and Oakland neighborhoods was closed for repair and maintenance to the support structure under the deck.
A theft at the bridge site over the weekend of April 13th delayed the completion date for the project, that had been scheduled to take 12 weeks. Vandals removed parts of the steel expansion joint system from the west abutment. These parts were fabricated exclusively for use at this structure.
This bridge was originally built in 1961.
