TOPEKA -- Now that the holidays have arrived, one thing you'll want to think about next week is when to take down the ornaments, and take out your Christmas tree. Topeka is offering three drop-off locations for Christmas Tree Recycling starting Sunday.
Parks & Recreation of Topeka’s Forestry Division says those three Christmas tree drop-off locations free to the public.
* The Biomass Yard Material Recycling Facility, just northeast of I-70 and MacVicar
* Crestview Community Center, 4801 SW Shunga Drive
* Oakland Community Center, 801 NE Poplar
The recycling facility is open 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday, and from 8:00 till 4:00 on Saturdays. Christmas trees can be dropped off at the community centers during daylight hours in the designated areas in the parking lot.
Trees must be completely bare of all ornaments, tinsel and other decorations, and must not be wrapped in a bag. “All we are taking is the tree,” said Adam Moser, City Forester. The trees will be chipped and used for bio fuel at Frito-Lay, Inc.
Trees will be accepted at all three locations from December 26th through January 31st.
