TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - People took time to bid farewell to a long-time county official Thursday.

A reception honored Shawnee County Elections Commissioner Elizabeth Ensley Deiter. Gov. Sam Bbrownback recently appointed Ensley Deiter as magistrate judge of the 22nd District Court, covering Marshall, Nemaha, Brown and Doniphan counties.

Ensley Deiter was first appointed elections commissioner in 1992. She credits her staff and board workers as being the people who truly make the elections work.

With the November election just around the corner, she says she believes she's leaving the office in good shape. She says the ballots are nearly ready and many other decisions and arrangements already are made.

Ensley Deiter succeeds her husband, Steve, in the judge's chair. He stepped down from the judgeship for health reasons.
