FROM THE TOPEKA LIBRARY -- This Saturday, October 13 will be a day of networking and information sharing from the best social media professional throughout the Midwest. The 3rd annual Podcamp Topeka, presented by the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, is an untraditional conference that encourages attendees to set the agenda. But it still requires “traditional” registration and a fee of $10 to cover breakfast and lunch. Register at podcamptopeka.org.

Rob Walch, Vice President of Podcaster Relations for Wizzard Media/Libsyn, Kansas City, Missouri, opens the event at 9:00am with a keynote talk about what makes a great podcast and how and where you can become a podcaster.Walch co-authored the book “Tricks of the Podcasting Masters.”

Breakout sessions will cover creating a blog, ebooks, Facebook marketing and creating videos and how to publish them. Want to lead a session? Just e-mail David King at dking@tscpl.org about your topic. Session leaders must register and pay for attendence.

“It’s your opportunity to meet people face-to-face, which doesn’t necessarily happen that often in social media,” said David Lee King, the Library’s Digital Services director and conference organizer. “It’s a day where tech and online users teach each other what works and what hasn’t worked in new media.”

Podcamp Topeka also offers visibility for social media and web professionals and networking opportunities with people and business leaders who are engaged in the social media world.

Podcamp Topeka, a program of the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, is sponsored by PC911 and PTs Coffee, 9th and Washburn. PTs Coffee will host a Tweet-up for conference-goers at the end of the day at approximately 4:30pm.
