TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A new service from the Kansas Judicial branch proved popular when a controversial case came before Supreme Court justices Friday morning.

The court launched online video streaming of arguments this week. Spokesperson Ron Keefover said, while the numbers may not seem overwhelming, they hit a definite peak Friday. The case of interest was whether state regulators properly issued permits for Sunflower Electric to build a coal-fired power plant near Holcomb.

Keefover said 295 people logged on to the live stream Friday morning. By contrast, the other cases on the court's docket this week saw fewer than a hundred viewers.

The live stream is part of a continued effort to help the public feel more in touch with its court system.
