TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Big money was raised as part of the Topeka Community Foundation's 30th anniversary celebration.
TCF brought non-profit groups back to Fairlawn Plaza Wednesday to reveal the results of the first-ever Topeka Gives event, held at the shopping center a week earlier.
In all, 75 non-profit organizations received checks totaling $189,508.66. TCF staged the event with a pledge to match $30,000 in donations. That means Topekans gave more than $150,000 to community groups in a single day.
During Topeka Gives, the organizations set up shop at Fairlawn Plaza, providing information and activities for people to learn about their work. Attendees were then invited to make contributions, designating the organizations to which they wanted the money to go.
The largest amounts went to the Topeka Rescue Mission, which received $12,759.95 with the TCF match. Doorstep received $10,217.47.
The complete list of organizations and amounts received is attached.
