TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The latest round of low cost weather radios are gone again.
Shawnee County Emergency Management's weather radios sold out in 90 minutes Monday afternoon.
Approximately 250 radios were available to Shawnee County residents at a cost of $7.70, thanks to a state grant.
Emergency Management Director Dave Sterbenz says people are realizing why a weather radio is important.
"For whatever reason at least they are paying attention," said Sterbenz. "Because you need to take care of you in a disaster. You can't hear a warning siren inside your house and you need a weather radio."
Sterbenz says 200 more radios will be sold from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at West Ridge Mall. They'll be sold first come, first served.
You must show proof you're a Shawnee County resident, and only cash payment is accepted.
Sterbenz also says anyone who previously received a call from Emergency Management that they had a weather radio reserved must pick it up by Nov. 30 or it will be given to others who are waiting. Again, this only applies to those who received a call that a radio was reserved for them.
Sterbenz says they'll keep ordering as long as grant money is available.
