TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - People in the Topeka area are invited to take steps toward helping babies have the healthiest possible start in life.
The March of Dimes kicked off activities for its annual "March for Babies" walk with a lunchtime gathering Thursday at Pozez Education Center in Topeka. Team captains were invited to learn event details, sponsor information and the web site where they can sign up and accept donations.
The highlight of the meeting was hearing from this year's ambassador family, Rachel and Robby Sachs, and their two-year-old daughter, Delaney. Delaney and her twin, Barrett, were born Sept. 30, 2011 at 24 weeks, five days. Each weighed less than two pounds. Sadly, Barrett passed away from an infection 10 days later.
Delaney spent three and a half months in Stormont's neonatal intensive care unit. But today, she's going strong.
13's Melissa Brunner emceed Thursday's event.
The 2014 March for Babies is May 3rd at the Statehouse. People are able to register themselves and their teams or make donations at www.marchforbabies.org.
