TOPEKA (WIBW) — This is your opportunity to be a book peddler, trading books you have read to get books you want to read. On Saturday, May 3rd from 1:00 to 3:00 Saturday afternoon in the Alice C. Sabatini Gallery. Even though the shelved library area is closed for the radio frequency chip conversion until May 5th, the Gallery is open to Friends members only for a rummage sale-like experience for book lovers. The Book Swap also includes a tour of the Printed Image 5 exhibit, a national, juried printmaking competition.
“Being able to bring in good quality books to trade for books you want to read is a worthy endeavor. It also helps build supplies for our other retail sale activities, like the online book store, Bag Day Book Sales and our annual book sale in the fall,” said Jerry Reed, Friends Book Swap chair.
This fun event is a benefit of being a Friends member. Memberships will be sold at the door or can be purchased prior to the event in the Chandler Booktique inside the library. During May 1-5, the Booktique will offer ½ price books, and as always, 10 percent off of all purchases for Friends members.
Swap/ Trade Rules:
■ Flash your Friends of the Library membership card at the door. If you aren’t a member, single memberships are $20 and Family memberships start at $30.
■ You can bring as many books as you want to donate. Make sure your books are in good condition and are a valuable trade.
■ You will receive a voucher for the same number of books you donate (up to 10 total).
■ Your book swap voucher allows you to choose new-to-you books (up to 10 total).
The Friends are dedicated to supporting the library, providing quality used books, CDs and DVDs through the Chandler Booktique, book sales and online sales. In 2013, the Friends provided $135,000 in support of the library.
