SALINA – The final weekend for the popular live penguin exhibit, Penguin Landing, is this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, October 19th and 20th. To celebrate, Rolling Hills Zoo is throwing a “Bye Bye Birdie Party” both days. Visitors can come and sign the four giant Bye Bye Birdie going away cards, visit the penguins one last time, make a penguin craft to help remember them by, and take advantage of clearance prices at the Penguin Cove gift shop just outside the exhibit.

Penny the Penguin will be on hand for photo opportunities and to help celebrate the weekend. The penguin keepers will also be talking to visitors about these amazing flightless birds after each feeding at 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each day. The activities begin at 9:00 a.m. and will continue until 4:00 p.m.

In addition, Penguin Encounters, a unique experience for a behind-the-scenes tour and hand feeding experience with the penguins at Penguin Landing, are still available.

Each day, two people can sign up to feed the penguins at Penguin Landing at 9:15 or 3:15. The fee for a Penguin Encounter is $45 for Rolling Hills Zoo members, $50 for non-members for a penguin “feeder”. Each “feeder” may be accompanied by one “photographer” or chaperone at no extra cost to share in all but the feeding experience. Penguin Encounters are limited to two penguin feeders per feeding, at 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. daily. Penguin feeders must be at least five years of age. Reserve your Penguin Encounter by calling the Zoo at 785-827-9488.

“We are so pleased with the popularity of the penguins”, says Vickee Spicer, Director of Marketing, “this is the final opportunity to visit these wonderful birds before they return home”.

Rolling Hills Zoo, a non-profit organization, features a world-class zoo, a state-of-the-art wildlife museum, a conference center, and unique educational and volunteer opportunities and programs.
