TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-The cold weather may be keeping some kids indoors, but they are still keeping busy.
A free 4-day winter break camp is open to kids in the Hi Crest neighborhood. It's called Doxazo Camp, meaning 'to glorify.' The camp has many things for first through eighth graders to do to stay busy through winter break.
"I'm here with the kids going crazy playing basketball, dodge-ball just leading activities on stage just getting the kids pumped up for everything that we're doing here in the gym," said Ryan Wynne, Doxazo Camp Director.
"All the camp leaders are awesome because they help you out. And whenever you're sad, they ask you what's the matter and they help the problem out," said 10-year-old camper, Danny Willins.
High school and college students from multiple churches in the area are volunteering. Breakfast and lunch is also provided. Other activities include the Highland Park Step Team teaching Step, Harvester's teaching healthy cooking, Discover Center teaching science of health and beauty and the Northeast Kansas Track training students running techniques.
As a part of the camp, the students will be doing service projects, such as cleaning up parks and shoveling snow for other small jobs and their neighbors.
Campus Coordinators say they are providing this camp for children so that they can stay out of trouble and out of the cold.
