TOPEKA – With Veterans’ Day only two days away, the Kansas Lottery wants to remind its players they can help support our state’s military veterans by purchasing Veterans Benefit games on Veterans’ Day and every day of the year.
“Every year, thousands of Kansans answer the call to serve and protect our country and our state. Our veterans’ games are a tribute to all of the dedicated Kansas military personnel who have served. We hope our players feel proud to honor veterans by making these games successful and contributing much-needed funding to veterans programs,” said Kansas Lottery Executive Director Dennis Wilson.
Since the legislation authorizing Veterans Benefit games was passed in 2003, the Kansas Lottery has transferred more than $7.2 million from sale of the games. Initially the games were sold only from May to November. In May 2008, sales of Veterans Benefit games were expanded to year-round.
When you purchase a Veterans Benefit instant (scratch) game, net profits provide direct funding distributed across three programs:
30 percent to the veterans enhanced service delivery program
40 percent to Kansas National Guard Education Assistance Act Scholarships
30 percent to the Kansas Veterans’ Home in Winfield, the Kansas Soldier’s Home at Fort Dodge, and the Veterans Cemetery System
The Lottery offers a $1 price point with its Veterans Cash game where players can win up to $2,000 and a $2 price point with its Betty Boop game with a top prize of $10,000. Visit your favorite Lottery retailer and ask about purchasing Veterans Benefit games.
This year, Hy-Vee stores in Topeka, Lawrence, Manhattan, Overland Park, Leawood, Olathe, Lenexa, Prairie Village, Mission, and Shawnee have teamed up with the Lottery to promote the sale of Veterans Benefit games by offering a free prize to any player who purchases a minimum of $10 in-store.
