TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger says she likely will not seek reelection next year.

Praeger shared her thoughts Monday following an appearance on 13 News at 4. She says she has been expressing similar thoughts on her intentions among family, friends and associates.

She tells 13 News the timing is right, with her husband retiring at the end of this year. She says they plan to spend more time visiting grandchildren, who live out of state.

Praeger,a Republican, is in her third term as Insurance Commissioner, having been first elected to the office in 2002. Before that, she served three terms in the Kansas Senate and a term in the Kansas House.

The Insurance Commissioner's Office is on the November 2014 ballot.

Praeger did say the filing deadline isn't until June 2014, so she could change her mind.
