TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - New computer hacking schemes frequently make the news. Denise Groene, director for the Better Business Bureau in Kansas, appeared on 13 News at 4 to talk about the issue.

How you know your account has been hacked:
*Friends, family get e-mails you did not send
*Your "sent messages" folder is empty or has fake messages
*Your social media accounts have posts you did not make
* You can't log on to your e-mail or social media account

What to do when you've been hacked:
*Make sure your reputable security software is up to date
*Change your passwords
*Check advice from your e-mail provider and social network site about restoring your account
*Check account settings
*Alert your friends
