TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- An organization that supports our military members, honored an organization that is helping to keep those soldiers gainfully employed.

The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve presented members of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment with its Above and Beyond Award.

Captain Jessica Walker who works for KDHE presented the award to her supervisor at the agency.

The award highlights the commitment KDHE has to giving its citizen soldiers the ease of mind they need while on deployment, which could mean the simple task of maintaining health insurance or just giving time off to spend with family.

'It is so important that the employer do support the employees when they're overseas. It is so hard on them and the last thing they need to be worried about is what's going on at home,' Walt Frederick, State Chairman for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

Capt. Walker has worked for KDHE for seven years and says they have always supported her military career.
