TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - An annual event to raise scholarship money for area youth kicked off Friday night.

This year's Jam4Dan -- a three day music event -- began Friday.

The event began as a fundraiser for Dan Falley who was killed in a car accident north of Topeka in 2008.

Now, musicians, performers and community members gather every Martin Luther King Jr. weekend to remember their friend and raise money to support local youth with their musical studies.

This year, they have t-shirts, a silent auction, and a Joel Edison handcrafted guitar for sale. A Peavy Bandit 65, the same type Edison himself plays, will also be paired with the guitar.

So far, the fundraiser has raised more than $9,000 in the form of free music lessons for youth.

The event runs through Sunday at the Celtic Fox. For event times, click the link below or visit www.jam4dan.com
